The reluctant fundamentalist is a short novel that we just read in class. It is about a Pakistani man named Changez that moves to America to realize the American dream. He studies at Princeton, before working at a valuation firm in New York. The story takes time in the present time where he speaks to an American man in a café in the Pakistani city, Lahore. There he tells the American all about his time in the USA, and ultimately why he returned back to Pakistan.
I thought the book was quite good. It slightly agitated me that we only got to hear all the events from Changez’ point of view, but at the same time it is his story, so maybe the other people’s experiences are not that relevant.
